😮Fallacy! The MACH will consume way too much electricity?

NO!🚫

Many EPCM engineering companies, consultants, so-called industry experts, and mining houses put a “spanner in the works”, excuse the pun!, by incorrectly pre-empting what they think is required with regards to electricity consumption with the MACH and go off on a tangent comparing MACH power consumption to that of their mills, etc. One cannot look at costs in isolation. Why spend even a blue dime if there is nothing to benefit from?🤔

Let’s steer away from all the ill-advised and misinformed incorrect assumptions that lead to the wrong decisions being taken and projects being halted before they even start!

👉Determine how many MACH passes are required for the particular application.
👉Perform MACH testwork
👉Accurately calculate the potential incremental revenue and the power requirement.
👉Determine incremental profit!

If it does not make money on paper, don’t do it. But if there is incremental profit to be made then what in the world is holding you back?

😮Fallacy! The MACH is very expensive to install.

 

Absolutely not! The most expensive component of the installation is the pump. The pipework and support structure is basic and access to the MACH is not required as it is a zero maintenance unit. Most clients pay back their installation costs within the first month of running and most often during their free trial periods. So the risk is actually minimal! What is holding you back?

 

😮Fallacy! The MACH requires high-pressure gas in order to operate.

Unlike other lower-order shear devices, the MACH is completely self-aspirating and does not require a pressurized gas supply as it will draw in gas under suction conditions created by the venturis inside the MACH. This is a significant advantage where oxygen is generated on-site with PSAs. For example, MACH back-pressure can be as high as 7 bar with gas pressure at 2 bar, and the MACH will still draw in gas and operate without blockage of the gas lines with slurry.

 

😮Fallacy! The MACH can only work with oxygen gas.

Whereas oxygen gas is preferred in leaching operations it is not essential. The MACH can operate with good efficiency with air injection in a leach environment as well. The ability of the MACH to cater for relatively high gas volumes assists in this regard. The reasoning is a higher gas flow to compensate for the 21% oxygen content of the air. And sure, saturation DO will still be in the range of 8 to 10ppm compared to 15 to 20 ppm that can easily be attained with oxygen, but the extreme energy conditions within the MACH more than compensate for the slightly reduced chemical gradient with air.

In flotation, the common gas injected into the MACH is air, nitrogen, and ammonia, but SO2 and CO2 can also be injected.

And how about steam injection to supercharge the cavitation process and improve heat transfer to heat fluids? Intimate contact equals higher efficiency. For cyanide destruction processes, ozone gas may be used.
